What This Blog Is

Beyond Diagnosis is the blog of the NYC-DSA Healthcare Working Group. It is a vehicle for the working group to communicate with the public about the NYC DSA's positions on healthcare policy and our reaction to healthcare news and events. We also aim to be a starting point for the non-DSA layperson to understand the healthcare landscape and what democratic socialist policies could offer for their daily lives.

The name reflects our conviction that diagnosing the failures of the for-profit healthcare system, however necessary, is not enough. Every piece we publish is oriented toward solutions: what a better system looks like, how we get there, and what working people can do right now to build the power to win it.

We are not a neutral publication. We are democratic socialists who believe healthcare is a human right, that the current system exists to extract profit from sick people, and that the only path to transformation runs through organized working-class power. The foundation of all our discussions, reactions, analyses, and stories is that it is rooted in what we believe are the policies that are most beneficial to the working class.
